UNISHAMSxALSA GLOBAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME WEEK 2

DAY NINE: 28TH JANUARY 2019, MONDAY

The Attorney General’s Chambers of Brunei Darussalam welcomed fifteen exchange students from Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University on 28th January, 2019. Representatives from AGC provided insights into the legal profession namely, the Civil Division, Criminal Justice Division, International Affairs Division and the Legislative Drafting Division. Also, the students visited the State Judiciary Department whereby, a representative emphasized the different legal scope between AGC and the State Judiciary Department.

At noon, the exchange students visited Royal Regalia Museum and Brunei History Centre to study the history of Brunei Darussalam such as Brunei’s independence and, the ancestry and culture of Brunei’s royal family.

DAY TEN: 29TH JANUARY 2019, TUESDAY

In the morning, the exchange students visited Kampong Ayer from Bandar Seri Begawan to Sinarubai. They also visited the Cultural and Heritage Museum located at Kampong Ayer whereby, the students experienced the history of Kampong Ayer and traditional game of Brunei Darussalam.

At PAZ Tarbiyyah School, the fifteen exchange students were welcomed by Dr. Hjh Mona Yati Mohd Kassim. Dr. Hjh Mona Yati was able to discuss how Tarbiyyah School was established and the exchange students witnessed children learning ablution and sunat hajat prayer.

DAY ELEVEN: 30TH JANUARY 2019, WEDNESDAY

Taman Warisan Tasek Merimbun held a briefing for the exchange students whereby, the exchange students were introduced to the history of Tasek Merimbun and, the floral and faunas of Brunei Darussalam. The rangers also brought the exchange student 650 metres into Tasek Merimbun to experience nature at first hand.

At Sago Factory, the Operating Manager showed the exchange students the process of extracting Sago from Rumbia trees. The exchange students also had the opportunity to taste sago worm and a local delicacy, Ambuyat.

One of the rangers briefed the delegates before exploring Tasek Merimbun, the 11th ASEAN Heritage Park.

DAY TWELVE: 31ST JANUARY 2019, THURSDAY

Sekolah Rendah D.M.S Dian Ulu Belait welcomed the exchange students with welcoming remarks by the Principal, Cikgu Rosnah binti D.M.S Hj Mohd Simpok. The welcoming remark is followed by a speech from Muhammad Saifullah bin Md Isa, head of delegation. Next, the students were given a tour around the school and the dormitory.

After school visitation, the students were brought to Rumah Besar/Panjang whereby, opening speech was given by Awg Lasit Anak Gelawing, Head of Rumah Panjang Biadong Ulu. The students were able to experience performances by three different tribes residing in Rumah Besar/Panjang and have a tour around Rumah Besar/Panjang.

DAY THIRTEEN: 1ST FEBRUARY 2019, FRIDAY

The students were given free time throughout the day and were given time to prepare gift for appreciation night. At night, appreciation night started with opening do’a and speech followed by video presentations. The exchange students also challenged ALSA Brunei to a dialect test. After the challenge, the exchange students and ALSA Brunei had a sharing session followed by gift exchange.

DAY FOURTEEN: 2ND FEBRUARY 2019, SATURDAY

In the morning, the students visited Joyful Garden, Museum Teknologi Brunei and Brunei Maritime Museum whereby the students witnessed and learned Brunei’s way of life in Kampong Ayer and the discovery of Brunei respectively. At Museum Teknologi Brunei, they also experienced the traditional games of Brunei Darussalam. The students were given free time in the afternoon to prepare themselves for Jerudong Park at night. At Jerudong Park, the students were able to enjoy most of the rides such as Scary Drop, Go-Kart, Pirate Ship, Ferris Wheel and Rollercoaster.

DAY FIFTEEN: 3RD FEBRUARY 2019, SUNDAY

Fifteen exchange students from Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University depart to Malaysia, Kedah after two weeks in Brunei Darussalam, ending their Global Outreach Programme.

UNISHAMSxALSA GLOBAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME WEEK 1

DAY ONE: 20TH JANUARY 2019, SUNDAY

Fifteen exchange students taking part in a Global Outreach Programme  from Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University arrived in Brunei Darussalam. Their Global Outreach Programme in Brunei Darussalam were to last for two weeks starting from 20th January 2019 until 3rd February 2019. Alongside the fifteen students, they were also accompanied by their Deputy Rector, Dr. Rohani binti Desa, as well as their lecturer, Masyitah binti Mohd Zainon.

In the afternoon, the students visited the Mall, Gadong. After this, in the evening, the students participated in an ice-breaking session facilitated by ALSA Brunei.

DAY TWO: 21ST JANUARY 2019, MONDAY

In the morning, the exchange students took part in a table round discussion at the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, revolving around the topic of voyeurism and the implementation of Shari’ah in Brunei. After the completion of the table round discussion, the students attended various lectures at the university until late afternoon.

In the evening, the exchange students visited the Gadong Night Market, whereby, they experienced a various amount of local food that can be found in Brunei Darussalam.

DAY THREE: 22ND JANUARY 2019, TUESDAY

The exchange students attended a number of lectures at the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University throughout the day. In the afternoon, their Deputy Rector, Dr. Rohani binti Desa, as well as their lecturer, Masyitah binti Mohd Zainon, departed from Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia, Kedah.

At night, the students went to Bandar Seri Begawan and visited the Yayasan Shopping Complex as well as the Eco-Corridor.

DAY FOUR: 23RD JANUARY 2019, WEDNESDAY

In the morning, the exchange students attended a Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) lecture, given by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awang Othman, the Minister for the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The lecture was held at the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University.

Throughout the afternoon, the students attended other lectures at the University. At night, they were given free time.

DAY FIVE: 24TH JANUARY 2019, THURSDAY

In the morning, the exchange students partook in a client counseling activity, whereby a friendly competition was held between a team from Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University and a team from Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University.

In the afternoon, the exchange students participated in a friendly debate competition. Two teams competed against each other by which, each team was made up of a mixture of students from both the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University and the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University.

In the evening, the exchange students attended a Majlis Tahlil and Do’a Selamat, at the residence of Dr Widad binti Haji Abdul Aziz, a lecturer from the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University.

DAY SIX: 25TH JANUARY 2019, FRIDAY

Acara Makan Tahun Pemedayan2019 welcomed the exchange students whereby, they were given a welcoming remark and briefing pertaining to Makan Tahun. The committee also provided an insight into the process of creating a local food known as Kelupis. Apart from this, they were also given the opportunity to take part in the process of creating the food.

In the afternoon, the students attended an ALSA Brunei event, Legal Colloquium whereby, it was a legal workshop facilitated by Tuan Sheikh Husrin Jairul Azry from the Daud Ismail Law Firm. From this legal workshop, the students were able to learn the essential preparations needed in preparing pleadings.

The delegates had the opportunity to experience making a local cuisine, “Kelupis”.

DAY SEVEN: 26TH JANUARY 2019, SATURDAY

In the morning, the exchange students visited the SMARTER EDGE, a centre for children with autism, and were welcomed by SMARTER’s president, Shri Malai Hj Abdullah Malai Hj Othman. After being given a briefing regarding on SMARTER, the students then proceeded with a tour of the facilities available at SMARTER EDGE.

After visiting SMARTER EDGE, the students then went to SMARTER BACA, a centre for adults with autism. At SMARTER BACA, the students were given a short briefing and were then showed the available facilities at the centre. In addition, they were also exposed to the ways in how adults with autism can be employed by going to the bistro and café available at SMARTER BACA, which are staffed by adults with autism.

In the afternoon, the students carried out community service at ABLE. Apart from carrying out community service, the students also had the opportunity to interact with the children at ABLE.

In the evening, the students attended the cultural night of Acara Makan Tahun Pemedayan2019, whereby they witnessed various performances pertaining to the culture of Kedayan.

UNISHAMS delegates were exposed to the culture of Kedayan tribe during the Cultural Night of Makan Tahun Pemedayan 2019.

DAY EIGHT: 27TH JANUARY 2019, SUNDAY

In the morning, the exchange students carried out community service at PGGMB school Sungai Akar. By the afternoon, the students attended the Majlis Pelancaran Wakaf Ilmu2019, which was held at the Sekolah Rendah Dato Mohd Yassin, Mukim Mentiri. At night, the Dean of Faculty of Shariah and Law from UNISSA welcomed the exchange students for a dinner and sharing session.
